Wireless Festival ( Birmingham )

Over the weekend of the 5th & 6th I had the opportunity to photograph Wireless Festival  for Birmingham live (review and images here), with this being my first festival shoot.

With over 40 performers over the 2 days split over 3 stages, I had to plan and try and time who to shoot and what time and stage I need to be at.

Over the weekend the press tent was visited by some of the performers and passing Celebs (Neon Jungle, Kingsland Road, Kid Ink, Basement Jaxx, and some of the cast of Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Geordie Shore).

There was a few artists I was excited to see live  (Outkast, Ella Eyre, Iggy Azalea, Pharrell Williams) who didn’t fail to deliver with there sets.

Wireless was also a great opportunity to see a few artists I wouldn’t normally go and see live.  The stand out performances for me over the weekend, Angle Haze, Outcast, Ella Eyre & Kid Ink)

So now we come to KANYE WEST, headliner and festival closer. I decided to watch and shoot his set with a open mind.

After the MTV awards disaster when he interrupted Taylor Swifts acceptance speech to tell the world that Beyoncé should have won not the teen singer, and a few other interviews I have seen with Mr. West not give me much of a liking to him.

With the crowd and press all skeptical about his set after footage of Kanye being booed on both performances at Wireless London,

Kanye came out onstage wearing a mask that was covered in metallic diamond shaped pieces with a huge LED wall behind him, and as much as I would like to say he was awful, he blew every other artist that had performed off the stage. During his set, he talked about how the media are always the fast to judge and put him down, but his fans stick with him, the still buy the records, they still come to the shows, kanye also confessed he’s shy but also arrogant.

People always say Genius is bordering on Insanity and after watching and enjoying Kanye's set I can honestly say in my opinion he’s sat right on the genius side of that line, and maybe in the past I have be to fast to judge and think he’s nuts, but in reality Kanye just has the balls to stand behind what he believes in stand behind his intergrity as a performer and has the balls the stand up to the media and he was right Beyoncé should have won the MTV award for best video, he’s just had the balls to say what everyone else was thinking ( maybe he could have done it another way but would the world have taken note? )

The things I will take away from the festival, is new found respect and admiration for Kanye and that’s something I NEVER thought I would say.
I did go out and buy his latest album Yeezus the next day and is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time.
